TORONTO, ON – The National Hockey League (NHL) and its Central Scouting Bureau have reached an agreement with Pointstreak Sports Technologies Inc. (“Pointstreak”) to access statistical data and video content for players of interest through the combination of Pointstreak’s real-time scoring technology and the video indexing technology of Pointstreak’s wholly-owned subsidiary, STEVA Sports Software Inc.  NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau will now have access to real-time scoring information as well as indexed video footage from Pointstreak and will make it available through a secure portal for its scouts as well as all 30 NHL member clubs.

“NHL Central Scouting’s desire to stay as up-to-date as possible in this hi-tech age regarding their service to the 30 member teams and their individual team scouting staffs has found an exciting new partner.  The concept, now made possible by the Pointstreak alliance, of providing these team scouts with such tools as real-time statistics and video has long been a goal of our Department.  This is one more enhancement in allowing scouts to do a better job in identifying the future stars of the NHL”, said E. J. McGuire, Director of NHL Central Scouting.

“We are extremely excited to have reached an agreement with the NHL and its Central Scouting Bureau to provide access to real-time statistical data as well as indexed video footage on players of interest.  We believe the platform developed for NHL Central Scouting will prove to be extremely efficient and invaluable to NHL Central Scouting’s staff and the member NHL clubs in their quest to identify and evaluate the best prospects from around the world,” commented Scott Secord, President/CEO of Pointstreak Sports Technologies Inc.

About The National Hockey League’s Department of Central Scouting:

Now in its 36th year of operation, NHL Central Scouting was established prior to the 1975-76 season as a service for the NHL member clubs. Today the Department has grown to include a two-person administrative staff at the NHL Offices in Toronto, along with nine full time scouts (including the Director), and fifteen part-time scouts throughout North America. To report on prospects playing in Europe, the NHL employs the services of Goran Stubb and his staff of six scouts at European Scouting Services based in Finland. All twenty-nine scouts reporting for Central Scouting will combine to see approximately 3,000 games this season.

NHL Central Scouting Service provides leagues and team directories, schedules and rosters for dozens of leagues and tournaments in North America and Europe that have NHL prospects participating in them. A focus is placed on the CHL, U.S. College and US Junior leagues and as a result, the department provides NHL scouts a weekly injury update and player movements report for those leagues. Along with these reports, Central Scouting provides NHL teams with video footage of top prospects and two player ranking lists during the season. These lists are used by NHL clubs as a second opinion and as an aid in making their own prospect evaluations. Over the last few years Central Scouting has been inviting approximately 100 of the top prospects from around the world to Toronto for an annual Scouting Combine, where scheduled interviews, medical assessments, and fitness testing are conducted.  This event allows NHL teams to view these top players prior the annual NHL Entry Draft, conducted each year in late June.
