Pointstreak Signs Agreement with the Florida Collegiate Summer League
May 18, 2010
Toronto, ON – Pointstreak and The Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL) are pleased to announce they have reached an agreement which will see Pointstreak provide real-time scoring, official statistics and administration services to the league for the 2010 season.
“We look forward to implementing Pointstreak’s scorekeeping solutions for our 2010 season. Clear and accurate statistics are important to the Major League Baseball scouts and college coaches who evaluate our players. Pointstreak’s system will provide exactly that as well as a great live visual for our fans watching and listening at home” said Stefano Foggi, Business Operations Manager for the Florida Collegiate Summer League. “Pointstreak’s staff is professional and great to work with. We look forward to a lasting relationship, one that will help us continue to be one of the prominent summer leagues in the nation.”
Pointstreak's baseball platform will streamline the process of capturing and delivering game statistics for the Florida Collegiate Summer League and deliver those game events to the league and team websites in real-time for the benefit of players, fans and media partners. A unique feature of Pointstreak's baseball statistical solution is Game Live, a real-time flash application that streams play-by-play baseball results over a 3-D graphical image of a baseball diamond. Pointstreak Stats for baseball is also geared towards the needs of media sources, providing Associated Press (AP) formatted box scores, allowing for easy reproduction of baseball stats into print media.
“We are very proud to have been chosen as the Official Real Time Scoring and Statistics Provider for the Florida Collegiate Summer League. To have the ability to deliver real-time scoring and official statistics to their fans and media partners in true real-time will be a great enhancement to the League's standard operations” said Paul Pettipiece, VP of Baseball Operations for Pointstreak. “The FCSL is a very statistically rich baseball environment and we are glad to have been chosen to facilitate that environment in 2010.”
About the FCSL:
The Florida Collegiate Summer League (Florida League) is a wood bat baseball league with five teams in Central Florida. Founded in 2003, the Florida League provides a valuable opportunity for college players to play wood bat baseball against top-level competition with the goal of preparing them for a career in professional baseball.
The Florida League is one of eight leagues affiliated with the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) – an alliance of college summer wood bat leagues which operates under National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) legislation. It is funded in part by Major League Baseball and is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that is primarily dependent on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations in each team’s community.
The Florida League is recognized by Baseball America as one of the top summer leagues in the United States. At present, 111 former Florida League players have been drafted by Major League Baseball (MLB) teams – with 23 former players taken in the 2009 MLB draft.
Entering its seventh season, the Florida League will give 150 college players, locals and others the opportunity to compete. The League also provides positions for 21 coaches, and 28 summer internships for college students and recent graduates. Team rosters are comprised solely of players who have completed one year of college and have college eligibility remaining, positioning the NACSB summer leagues at the highest level of pre-professional amateur baseball in America.
The Florida League has a 44-game schedule. All games are played at night to allow players time during the day to work, attend summer classes or condition on their own. The night schedule also is conducive to attendance by families, for who Florida League baseball provides affordable entertainment. Fan events – such as the Rubber Chicken Chuck and Races of the Bases following every game – are among the fun activities that promote family participation.
Community involvement is a priority for the Florida League. We partner with local non-profit and civic groups through Community Nights, which provide a venue for interaction with fans. Our partnership with local Boys & Girls Clubs of America led to the formation of the Ken Griffey Jr. Youth League, where our players and coaches teach baseball while operating a summer-long league at various clubs.
